Where are you located? My cozy studio is located in my home in the SW community of Shawnessy. Because I am a home-based business, my address is not publicly available, but once you book, I will provide you with my address and directions if you need them!

Does waxing hurt?I'm not going to fib and say waxing is 100% discomfort-free, but what I can say with absolute certainty is that the right wax in the hands of a fabulous waxer can give you amazing results with the ouch-factor great reduced. Plus, any discomfort associated with waxing is fleeting. If you haven’t waxed before or are a long time between wax appointments, the ouch-factor is increased. If you wax on schedule (approximately every 4-5 weeks) any discomfort is greatly diminished. Some clients say popping an ibuprofen 20-40 minutes before their appointment makes all the difference. I with leave it with you to experiment with that!
-
Can I use numbing cream before my appointment?I'd prefer that you didn’t, since it may affect the integrity of the wax. More importantly, it won’t have much of an effect, since I use a wax that doesn’t stick to your skin. So, there isn’t any feeling of a Band-Aid being ripped off your skin!
-
Do I need to do anything to prepare for my appointment? Not a lot! You just need to grow your hair out for 3-4 weeks (four weeks is best) from your last wax or shave. If your hair is longer than 4 weeks growth you do NOT need to trim, I will trim it to the perfect length for you, since waxing longer hair can hurt more and prevent the wax from interfacing properly with the hair and skin. There is no extra charge for trimming! To help you get the best results, well-hydrated and moisturized skin is a must. Please stay out of the sun 48 hours prior to your appointment. I can’t wax your sunburnt skin!

How long does my hair have to be?Your hair needs to be 5mm or ¼ of an inch long. Some of your hair will be the proper length in about 10 days, but it takes 3 to 4 weeks for the majority of your hair to be wax ready. If you wax without letting your hair grow out the proper amount of time, you may get more breakage and ingrown hairs, and your wax will not last as long. There isn’t a sticky substance out there (wax or sugar) that will get you great results without 3 to 4 weeks of growth — and I want you to have great results! For facial hair and underarms, the hair needs to grow a minimum of 2 weeks.

What exactly is a Brazilian wax at LuLu’s?At LuLu’s, a Brazilian is EVERYTHING gone from your belly button (including your treasure trail) all the way around to your tail bone. You can decide if you would like to leave a strip at the very top or not.
-
How long does it take to get a Brazilian wax?I pride myself on efficiency. Most Brazilian bikini wax services take less than 20 minutes from start to finish. I book extra time for new clients.
-
What certifications does you have? Are you licensed?First of all, it’s important to note there is no standard government licensing for aestheticians in Alberta — so beware! However, I am a certified waxer as well as a licensed cosmetologist in Alberta, and have trained with some of the best wax educators in North America. I continue to take classes and attend aesthetic shows frequently to make sure I am up to date on products and techniques. With regards to my business, LuLu’s is licensed in accordance with the City of Calgary: incorporated and health inspected by AHS. I abide by all the rules and regulations set out in Alberta Health Services “B Spa Safe” guide.

What kind of wax do you use?I use an exceptional hard wax that is formulated without perfumes, colouring agents, pine rosin or preservatives. It’s melts at an ultra low temperature and is extremely gentle on the skin. Hard wax shrink wraps the hair and while it sets, it releases from your skin, so there’s no Band-Aid ripping feeling when the wax is removed. It’s the bee’s knees of wax!
-
What’s the difference between waxing and shaving? You can be a slave to the razor, shave several times per week and deal with cranky stubble in between — OR you can get smooth, silky skin from waxing. Waxing removes hair from the root, so as a result, hair grows in softer and looks lighter in colour because it is finer. With waxing you can wax once a month and be done! Waxing also exfoliates the skin so it is left feeling silky soft. That means no stubble. YAY! Say it with me: “YAY! NO STUBBLE!”
-
I’ve always gotten nasty ingrown hair from shaving. Will I get them from waxing too?You might. We won’t know until you’ve had a few wax appointments. If you end up with ingrown hair from waxing, I have some fabulous products to recommend.
-
Will my hair grow back thicker and darker?NOPE. Waxing does NOT make your hair grow in thicker and coarser. If that were, true bald men would be waxing their heads like crazy to get thick, coarse hair! You are born with all the hair follicles you will ever have. Your health, genetics and hormones control your hair growth.
-
How long will I be fuzz-free?That depends. For most it’s 2 to 3 weeks. If you wax on schedule (every 4 to 5 weeks) your regrowth will be finer and softer between appointments and you will be noticeably less fuzzy.
-
How do I take care of my freshly waxed skin?I will give you all the information you need at your waxing appointment.
-
Who will be waxing me?Me, Dallas (aka LuLu!) I am mad-crazy about consistency and making all of my clients feel comfortable, so you can expect the same great experience every time.
-
Can I wax while I have my period?Absolutely! It’s perfectly acceptable to wax while you have your period. All you need to do is tuck the string of your tampon inside.
-
I’m pregnant. Can I still get waxed?Absolutely, Mama! I have waxed a LOT of pregnant clients, almost right up to their due date. You just might be a more sensitive during this time. I recommend that you schedule your pre-delivery wax 10 days to 2 weeks before your due date. Some of my clients have missed their “deliver wax” because the baby came early! I like to book a little extra time for pregnant clients so when you book, please let me know you are pregnant.
-
Can I bring friends or my kids to my appointment?I firmly believe that Brazilian waxing is not a spectator sport. I also do not have a waiting room, so anyone you bring with you must wait in the car. The only "plus ones" allowed in the studio are babies strapped into carriers. Hot wax pots and toddlers do NOT mix!
-
What methods of payment do you take? Why do I need a credit card to book?I accept cash and debit. I currently do not accept credit cards for regular payments due to the costly bank fees. I would rather keep my prices low and pass that savings on to you! A credit card in your name is required to book and hold your spot, and if you do not show up for your appointment or cancel last-minute, you will be charged for your service. Any bookings made with cards that do not match the name on the appointment will be cancelled. I have recently implemented this policy after approximately $5,000 in revenue was lost due to no-shows. Thank you for understanding!

Do you wax men?I work hard to create an inclusive and safe environment, and firmly believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience smooth and silky skin. But, unfortunately I am not trained to wax male genitalia. You do NOT want someone messing with your bits who is not expertly trained to do so. Seriously, you don’t. It really is a whole other ball of wax!
